The steps below are for nurses who are renewing their Oklahoma licenses. If you’re an out-of-state nurse looking to practice in Oklahoma, you must apply for licensure by endorsement or examination.
Completing the renewal process by the deadline will make or break your application, so be sure to keep these time frames in mind.
You should receive a renewal reminder letter 10 weeks before your deadline. However, you can start the process up to three months before your license officially expires.
If you’re running behind schedule, you have a 30-day grace period after the expiration date during which your license is active and can still be renewed as long as you submit your required information within that time frame.
Not only is continuing education important for staying up to date, it’s often required by state boards of nursing. Oklahoma is no exception. At least one of the state’s continuing education requirements must be completed during the previous two-year licensure period.
APRN:
APRNs with prescriptive authority must also complete 15 contact hours (or 1 academic credit hour) of education in pharmacotherapeutics, clinical application, and use of pharmacological agents in the prevention of illness, and in the restoration and maintenance of health.
